5 September, from 6pm, Parliament Chamber, Middle Temple
MTYBA is hosting with the Human Rights Lawyers Association (HRLA) an event on 5 September on legal challenges of anti-LGBT laws in the Commonwealth.
The event marks the one year anniversary of the Indian Supreme Court's historic unanimous ruling to decriminalise homosexual sex. Panel members will explore how, as a result of the British colonial legacy, half of the countries that criminalise same-sex activity today are former British colonies and will discuss the work that is being done to challenge discriminatory laws across the Commonwealth one year on from the landmark judgment in India. The Panel includes a lawyer and claimant who brought a successful legal challenge to overturn one of these laws on constitutional grounds.
The discussion will be followed by a Q&A session and networking with refreshments.
The event is kindly sponsored by Hogan Lovells. To register, please email administrator@hrla.org.uk.
