The 2019 MTYBA Committee were elected at the Annual General Meeting on 5 December 2018


President

Michael Harwood

Michael is serving his second term as President of MTYBA, having previously served as Vice-President, Pre-Pupillage Officer and Advocacy Officer.

Michael is a lawyer at HM Treasury, and has acted in a variety of roles as a legal adviser in government.

As President Michael aims to provide a strong voice to the junior Bar within the Inn, with a particular focus on social mobility and wellbeing.

Michael Polak

Michael is serving a second term as Vice-President of MTYBA, having served as Development Officer, Tenancy Officer and Pupillage Officer.

Michael is a tenant at Church Court Chambers and practises in criminal and human rights law.


Treasurer

Richard Reynolds

Richard is serving a second term as Treasurer of MTYBA, having previously held the role of Tenancy Officer and Pupillage Officer.

Richard is a tenant (and former pupil) at Nine Bedford Row. Previously he was a paralegal in criminal, public & coronial law and served as general counsel to a digital publishing company.

Secretary

Aimee Stokes

Aimee is serving on MTYBA for the first time this year, acting as Secretary for the committee. 

Aimee is currently completing her pupillage at 9 King’s Bench Walk, practising primarily in criminal law.

Social Secretary

Maham Qureshi

Maham is serving on MTYBA for the first time as the Social Secretary. She previously served as the Vice-President of MTSA for the term 2017-18. 

Maham is currently a senior paralegal at Danielle Cohen Solicitors.

Communications Officer

Sarah Taylor

Sarah is serving as Communications Officer of MTYBA, having previously served two terms as Secretary.

Sarah is a tenant at Goldsmith Chambers.

Pre-Pupillage Officer

Lauren Suding

Lauren is serving as Pre-Pupillage Officer of MTYBA, after serving as Development Officer and Treasurer for two years. She is also on the Middle Temple Hall Committee and represents Hall on the Finance & Resources Committee and on the Commercial & Operations sub-committee.

Lauren came to the Bar after a ten year career in banking. She is a tenant at Field Court Chambers.

Pupillage Officer

Matthew Withers

Matthew is serving as Pupillage Officer of MTYBA for the second time, having also previously served as Pre-Pupillage Officer.

Matthew is a tenant at 1COR Brighton.

Tenancy Officer

Dr James Gould

James is serving as Tenancy Officer of MTYBA for the first time, after serving as Pre-Pupillage Officer, and for two years as Advocacy Officer.

James has taught law to undergraduate students, which included teaching advocacy and mooting. He serves as director and trustee for the charity, Adventure Plus.

Merlene George

Merlene is serving on MTYBA for the first time as Advocacy Officer. She previously served as the Debating Officer of MTSA from February 2018 to October 2018.

Merlene is currently working in the Education Department of the Middle Temple as a Records Assistant until April 2019. She looks forward to working as an Advocate for LPC Law from May 2019.

Matthew Howarth

Matthew serves as Northern Circuit Chair for the second time, having also previously served as Pupillage Officer of MTYBA.

Matthew is a tenant at Lincoln House Chambers.

MTYBA Northern Sub-Committee

The MTYBA Northern Sub-Committee was co-opted by the MTYBA committee to increase the presence of MTYBA, and its engagement with members, in the northern regions.
