MTYBA | International Women's Day Event

A panel symposium style event celebrating International Women's Day 2021! We will be highlighting women in leadership, the challenges faced in the journey to the Bar, how to overcome those barriers and the importance of diversity and equality within the profession. The esteemed panel will feature Mrs Justice McGowan, Barbara Mills QC, Heidi Stonecliffe QC, Laurie-Anne Power and Becky Wright with more speakers to be announced.

In 2019 we celebrated a centenary since the Sex Disqualification Removal Act 1919 which enabled women to join the legal professions and professional bodies, to sit on juries and be awarded degrees for the 1st time. As a result, Helena Normanton was called to the bar in 1922 and became the first woman in England to practise as a barrister. Therefore, we kindly ask attendees to help to raise funds for the Helena Normanton Scholarship Fund offering scholarships to women wanting to pursue a career at the Bar.
